No payment.
No start.
No lost cars.

The GPS tracker and starter interrupt built for American dealers who carry the note. Hidden in the cabin, wired into the CAN bus, with its own battery — your collateral is always on the map.

How it works

From install to recovery in four steps

  1. 01

    Wire it in

In-line on the CAN bus, hidden behind the trim before the buyer drives off. 12 minutes with the included harness.

  2. 02

    Pair the loan

Scan the unit, attach the VIN and payment schedule, print the buyer's state disclosure form.

  3. 03

    Watch the map

Every financed car, live. Geofence and tamper alerts hit your phone the moment they fire.

  4. 04

    Interrupt & recover

Payments stop → warning fires → next start blocked. Your recovery agent picks it up off the pin.

The platform

Your whole lot, on one map

Color-coded by payment status — current, past due, disabled. One glance tells you where every note stands.

  • Two-tier accounts

Admin console creates dealerships; each dealer sees only its own fleet, staff and loans.

  • Interrupt controls

Warning schedule, disable, restore — all logged, all reversible in one click.

  • Recovery links

Send your repo agent a live pin that expires when the car is back on the lot.

What's in the box

Everything between the sale and the last payment

  • Real-time GPS

30-second pings while moving, hourly heartbeat when parked. 24 months of trip history on every unit.

  • Starter interrupt

Blocks the next start — never shuts off a moving vehicle. One click to restore after payment.

  • Hidden install + battery

In-line CAN-bus wiring, tucked in the cabin. Cut wires trigger an alert and the 72-hour battery takes over.

  • Geofences & alerts

State-line, impound-lot and port alerts out of the box. Draw your own fence in two clicks.

  • Reusable hardware

Loan pays off? Uninstall and pair the unit with the next sale. Most dealers cycle each device through 4–6 loans.

  • Works offline

No cell coverage? The unit stores positions and uploads the full trail the moment it reconnects.

Pricing

One device.
One monthly line item.

Compliance

Built to keep your dealership defensible

GPS and starter-interrupt devices on consumer loans are regulated state by state. PayToStart enforces the rules so your staff can't skip them — and your attorney sleeps fine.

State-by-state compliance guide →

  • Signed buyer disclosure

State-specific consent forms generated with every loan pairing.

  • Mandatory warning period

Interrupt commands are blocked until the configured notice window has passed.

  • Never mid-drive

Takes effect at next ignition only, with a 24-hour emergency start code for the driver.

  • Full audit trail

Every command — who, when, why — logged and exportable for disputes.

What dealers say

Marcus T.
Riverside Motors, TX · 340 units

We went from losing three or four cars a year to zero. Recovery used to take weeks — now my agent has a pin on the map the same afternoon.

Diana R.
Sunbelt Auto Credit, AZ · 120 units

The interrupt warning alone gets people to the phone. Most of the time we never have to disable — they call and pay.

Carlos M.
Lone Star Auto Sales, TX · 210 units

Install takes my lot tech about ten minutes now. The buyers sign the disclosure, we scan the unit, done. Zero pushback.

Beth A.
Great Lakes Motors, MI · 95 units

The audit log saved us in a dispute. Every warning and command was time-stamped and exportable. Our attorney loved it.

Tyrone W.
Peachtree Credit Auto, GA · 260 units

Reusing the devices across loans pays for itself. Each unit has been through five cars and still going strong.

FAQ

Questions dealers ask

Is starter interrupt legal in my state?

Permitted in most states with proper disclosure. Onboarding includes a state-by-state guide, and warning periods are configured to your state's requirements.

Will the buyer know the device is installed?

Yes — most states require signed disclosure, and we provide the forms. The device location itself is concealed so it can't be casually removed.

What happens if someone cuts the wiring?

You get an instant tamper alert and the internal battery keeps reporting location for up to 72 hours.

Does it work on older vehicles?

Any vehicle with a CAN bus — roughly 2008 and newer. For older cars we offer a relay-based harness.

Who installs the devices?

Your lot tech, with our 12-minute install guide — or we connect you with a certified installer network in most metro areas.
